MONTROSE
TENNIS JUNIOR REPORT
AEGON U16 League Friday 17th
June
Montrose’s U16 this week had a fixture
with Duffus Club (Cupar) In a true battle of grit Scott Lorimer’s
singles rubber lasted one and half hours with long rallies from both
players but a great result for Scott taking both sets 6-4 7-5.
Cameron Eeles playing No 2 had a terrific game winning his singles
6-4 before his opponent could get his rythme and Cameron clinched
the second set in tie breaker 7-6.
Findlay Soutar No 3 had a difficult
opponent and uncharacteristically struggled with his serve, narrowly
just losing out in his singles. Playing No 4 Ross Mitchell put in a
superb effort never letting his opponent settle into his game, Ross
certainly used all his agility to clinch his sets 6-2 6-1.
In the doubles matches Findlay and Ross
paired up well with great shots from both Montrose players but
narrowly lost out 4-6 4-6. Scott and Cameron lost their first
doubles set to the famous Killean brothers but went onto secure the
second after a mammoth set. The match was then drawn at 3matches
each team. In Aegon leagues there is a Championship tie break for
the overall match, first to ten points. With nerves of steel Scott
and Cameron served well and caught the Killean brothers out with
some powerful base line exchanges to conclude the tie break 10-4 to
Montrose. A late but happy night for the Montrose players. Rhona
Alston said “the boys showed great team spirit, every point was
keenly played for and the two teams were very evenly matched, it was
a very good result for Montrose’s young players”.

allows him to retrieve and rally well to enjoy winning his singles.
The top Broughty Ferry players on this occasion were too strong for
Scott and Cameron and lost their doubles too and Findlay and Ross
drew their doubles so the team narrowly were defeated by Broughty
Ferry.

Montrose Junior Team 3 v Craigie 3.
With a late start arranged for 4pm on

playing deep baseline rallies won 6-4 6-3, Jack Murison who has
